Goodyear herald growth and pace of FIA ETCR in 2023

The first-ever season of FIA ETCR eTouring Car World Cup racing took in six venues across Europe with just one, sustainable, tyre specification used at every event for every occasion, thanks to official tyre supplier and founding partner, Goodyear.

2022 proved to be very productive for Goodyear, as Sebastian Trinks, Goodyear Event Leader for WTCR and ETCR , explained.

“The quality of racing and the spectacle took a step forward in 2022 and the intensity of the racing helped us develop our set-ups to gain more performance.

“We had great feedback from drivers on the all-weather Goodyear Eagle F1 SuperSport race tyres, with comments on grip being there from the beginning, as soon as getting released from the starting gates.”

This quick warm-up is important with short, sprint races and massively powerful and torquey cars, and was a key focus in Goodyear’s development plan for the bespoke ETCR tyre.

“The cars have been around half a second a lap quicker compared to 2021 during some events. This, combined with a very professional driver level has helped both us and the Cup develop.

“As a result, we have also seen the fanbase grow and the broadcasting have a more global spread. The door-to-door battles and fights have been more thrilling, as the drivers are more equal and the performance of the car packages have been more competitive. We look forward to 2023.”

“FIA ETCR cars are very specific touring cars. They are both heavy for a race car and at the same time extremely powerful with a lot of their mass down low,” explains FIA ETCR Series Director, Xavier Gavory.

“Goodyear achieved something fantastic, delivering a tyre which enables racing in all weather conditions, factoring in the unique requirements of the ETCR cars.

“The tyres comprise a massive element of the performance equation as they are the only part of the car in contact with the road in normal conditions.

“Through Goodyear, we found the right partner to put together a proper racing tyre that did not compromise sustainability and it’s the perfect partner for us as we grow in the future.”
