The FIA ETCR – eTouring Car World Cup represents a huge step forwards for electric touring car racing.
FIA ETCR partnered in 2021 with EARTHDAY.ORG – the global organizer of Earth Day – to promote greater sustainability and highlight the excitement of electric mobility and the positive effect it can have on the environment worldwide.
A key focus of the series challenge to promote the use was to engage with EARTHDAY.ORG’s Canopy Project, a global reforestation programme that has already planted tens of millions of trees since its inception.
Last year, 1.2 million trees were planted in Canada, India, Mexico, Tanzania, Uganda, Madagascar, and Europe via the Canopy Project.
In season one FIA ETCR has been responsible for the planting of more than 4,500 trees and creating the resultant environmental & local communities benefits.

Discovery Sports Events, the FIA ETCR promoter, supports the vision outlined in the United Nations Sports for Climate Action Framework to reach net zero emissions no later than 2050.
Accompanied by third party experts, the FIA ETCR promoter commits to setting a target of 50% emission reduction by 2030 and a net-zero emissions target by 2040.
Measurement (on a Scope 1, 2 & 3 basis) helps us identify our significant emissions and improve our ongoing emissions reduction process in order to align with the 2015 Paris Agreement and avoid dangerous climate change by limiting global warming to well below 2°C.
The FIA ETCR, as a signatory of the United Nations Sports for Climate action framework is working on nine Sustainable Development Goals that will continue to improve the sustainability of the series throughout the 2022 season and beyond.
The UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are an urgent call for action by countries – both developing and developed – to form a global partnership to work towards greater peace and prosperity for people and the planet by 2030.
FIA ETCR Commitments are: Good Health & Well Being, Quality Education, Clean Water & Sanitation, Affordable & Clean Energy, Industry, Innovation & Infrastructure, Sustainable Cities & Communities, Sustainable consumption & production, Climate Action and Partnership.

Sustainable development is not only about the planet ; it’s caring about people as well.
At every FIA ETCR event, we are working side by side with local communities and associations.
We aim to organize meetings, roundtable discussions and on-site actions. For our first race, students from local universities will have the opportunity to discover the world of motorsport and to debate about it.
FIA ETCR is proud to be the third promoter after Formula E and Formula One to be FIA Three Stars accredited. The FIA Environmental Accreditation Programme is aimed at helping motor sport and mobility stakeholders worldwide to measure and enhance their environmental performance. By introducing clear and consistent environmental management into motorsport and mobility, it provides stakeholders with a three-level framework against which to accredit their activities.

At FIA ETCR our aim is to do motorsport in a better way. Real sustainability action doesn’t happen only on track. As a promoter our aim is to identify, link and impose environmental actions through all our stakeholders.
A constraining chart correlated with our EMS’ objectives has been provided to 100% of our suppliers and local promoters to respect our environmental standards.
Since season one we jointly design solutions with key suppliers to reduce our environmental impact. Thus, we use all weather Goodyear tyres so that fewer tyres are made, transported and disposed. Thanks to our HTWO hydrogen generators, only decarbonized electricity is used in the race car charging process.
In areas where we race, concrete on-site actions has been set:
=> no leaks programme to avoid any kind of leaks in the paddock.
=> Plastic bottles in the offices must be avoided and replaced by water fountains.
=> We ensure that the signage related to Waste Management is visible.
=> We encourage on-site fans and staff to use lower carbon methods to come to the event.
From year one, FIA ETCR implemented an Environmental Management System. An EMS is a set of processes and practices that enable an organization to reduce its environmental impact and improve its operating efficiency.
Environmental care has always been an inherent part of FIA ETCR strategy. As immediate sustainable action we set up an optimized calendar in order to avoid air freight since season one.
Furthermore, to continuously improve its management processes and set concrete KPIs FIA ETCR promoter’s Discovery Sports Events is on its way to obtaining ISO 20121 & BCorp certifications (respectively by 2023 & 2024) supported by two environmental advisory companies.
Our events are reducing their carbon footprint and so are we.
