A relative unknown, despite finishing runner-up in both the SEAT Eurocup in 2016 and the Audi TT Cup the following season, Mikel Azcona burst onto the touring car scene in 2018, defeating many better-known and more-experienced drivers to win the TCR Europe title at the first attempt in a nail-biting five-way final-round shoot-out. That earned him a graduation to the WTCR, where he has become a multiple race-winner. When he’s dipped his toe back into national and regional TCR competition since, he has simply crushed the opposition.
